Google's Harness² hits 11.5k GitHub stars: recursive self-improving agent harnessing
burny_tech · x · 2026-10-20
Google Research open-sourced Harness² on GitHub (Apache-2.0), already at 11.5k stars and 1k forks.
- Defines a harness as the system around a model that makes it an agent: prompts, tools, memory, skills, orchestration
- Task-level recursion: contrastive Propose–Probe–Compose — propose harness edits, probe them on the same task, compose a refined harness from behavioral contrasts, no ground-truth needed
- Harnessing-level recursion: distills adopted edits and evidence-backed lessons into a persistent improvement harness for unseen future tasks
- Repo ships docs, benchmark guides, scripts and tests
