Dev builds one-click Chrome extension to copy YouTube transcripts into ChatGPT
Connect-Soil-7277 · reddit · 2026-10-20
A Reddit developer who routinely uses ChatGPT to work through long lectures, podcasts and interviews got tired of manually exporting YouTube transcripts, so they built a Chrome extension called Copy YouTube Transcript that grabs the full available transcript in one click, ready to paste into ChatGPT.
Options include keeping or removing timestamps, including the video title and source link, prepending your own prompt, and copying or downloading as TXT. It works on desktop Chrome for captioned videos and Shorts, relies on existing captions (so it can't transcribe caption-less videos), and is live on the Chrome Web Store.
