Journalist-turned-founder Girish (jammastergirish) announced he is joining Redwood Research, the Berkeley-based AI safety nonprofit that laid the foundations for AI control. He will conduct empirical research while also shaping how the org communicates AI's wider risks.
His path spans physics, a decade reporting on global crises, and years building startups — which he frames, citing David Epstein's Range, as leading to this role. He thanks mentors across Stanford, ERA Cambridge, EleutherAI, BlueDot Impact and more, including Redwood founder Buck Shlegeris.
