chrmanning · x · 2026-10-20
A public-source tally compares AI lab sizes with startups founded by their members: Stanford Hazy Research produced 7 startups from 13 people, Stanford NLP spawned 12, and Berkeley SkyLab 7.
Christopher Manning responded that credit belongs to the students and faculty — including Dan Jurafsky, Percy Liang, Chris Potts, Yejin Choi, Monica Lam, Diyi Yang, and Tatsu Hashimoto — noting Stanford NLP is the only large lab at the top of the list.
