Evangelion fan PoC nails AI-CG full-contact compositing with zero drift, ~5x faster

A VFX artist released an Evangelion fan PoC plus breakdown: an AI-rendered Sachiel in full physical contact with a CG (Redshift) Eva Unit-01, contact points held 1:1 frame-by-frame through a complex camera move—no drift, no clipping.
Key workflow:
- Layered rendering: Sachiel, tanks, and city are separate AI layers; ComfyUI outputs alpha+depth per AI layer, Redshift does the same for CG, all comped in Nuke like normal passes.
- Minimize per-frame pose changes to avoid flicker and drift; original animation untouched.
- MiniMax for quick tests, Seedance 2.0 for finals; one shot at a time, never long sequences.
- Never invent frames: retiming tools create poses that never existed and break the comp.
- Every frame checked against CG before comp.
Speed: the AI side took 1 month vs 4-5 months for the traditional side; the same elements done conventionally would take roughly 5x longer based on the author's studio experience.
The author calls for AI render setups built around layers from the start—per-asset passes with alpha and depth locked to one camera, i.e., CG-style render layers and AOVs for AI.
