Cross-Agent Verification: Use Codex as a Read-Only Reviewer for Claude's Code
umeshonai · x · 2026-10-20
A practical cross-agent verification protocol for catching code bugs before opening a PR:
- Write the unified git diff to .context/candidate.patch
- Run a non-interactive, read-only review via codex exec --sandbox read-only, instructing the secondary model to audit the patch against AGENTS.md and output ONLY findings anchored to exact file:line in JSON (or [] if clean)
- Fail closed: empty output, timeouts, or missing file:line anchors count as failures
- Reject speculative stylistic suggestions; apply minimal patches for verified logic/security defects, re-run the local test suite, then delete the patch file
The author claims this simple trick catches errors 99% of the time, and it can be reversed so Claude reviews work done by OpenAI Codex — cheap, vendor-agnostic mutual review between coding agents.
