Fan-made EVA PoC gets AI character in full contact with CG with zero drift

A VFX professional published an Evangelion fan PoC with full breakdown: an AI-rendered Sachiel stays in full physical contact with a CG (Redshift) Eva Unit-01 through a complex camera move, contact points pixel-aligned on every frame with no drift — something he says nobody has done before.
Method
- Camera, animation and the Eva are traditional CG in Maya; the AI never decides placement. Eva rendered with alpha and depth in Redshift
- Sachiel, tanks, city and environment are AI, rendered in separate layers (buildings > Sachiel > tanks > sim), each with ComfyUI alpha/depth passes, comped pixel-perfect in Nuke with correct occlusion both ways
- Explosions, blood and destruction stay Houdini — "physics stays physics"
Alignment lessons
- Give the model less to guess: prepped animation with small inter-frame changes so V2V locks onto geometry instead of hallucinating; original animation never touched
- Separate what the AI sees (clean, noise-free, no motion blur) from comp passes
- Cheap test renders in MiniMax first; finals in Seedance 2.0 only after shots align
- Shot by shot, never long sequences; never invent frames — retiming interpolation breaks the comp
Speed: AI side took 1 month vs 4-5 months traditional; fully traditional would be 5x longer by his studio estimate. Not perfect: buildings lose detail in fast shots, environment placement could improve.
