Dream-1 tops RoboDojo-RC Tier 1 with score of 59, pushing back on 'LLMs will solve robotics'

Scott Reed amplifies Tan Youliang's pushback on the 'LLMs will solve robotics' narrative gripping the robot learning community. LLM agents are great for planning, but dynamics and dexterous manipulation still need a fast System 1 (or System 0) model. Partnering with independent evaluation firm Robocurve, Dream-1 scored 59 — the highest among evaluated models on RoboDojo-RC Tier 1 — while being faster and cheaper. It's also the first model to complete 'Stand Up Bottles,' a hard robotics task frontier LLMs struggle with. The author stresses VLA, WAM and LLM approaches should be complementary.
