DeepMind researcher warns AI-only investment could leave science with more hypotheses than labs to test them

Google DeepMind researcher weballergy warns that investing in AI without matching investment in scientific infrastructure will leave humanity with more hypotheses than it can validate downstream.
Quoting her own thread on why AI's promises to public good remain unfulfilled despite leaps in coding and math, she argues intelligence is only an enabler: many sciences that aren't purely computational still need physical laboratories to confirm or disprove AI-generated findings — "some of them will also be false."
Her call: the broader scientific community needs investment too — more people, more experts, more laboratories.
