Dev slams Anthropic's compute deal with xAI: bankrolling Musk worsens the frontier landscape

johnallard published a critical thread on Anthropic's compute deal with xAI/SpaceX (referred to as spacexai):
- Citing Grok's earlier bout of Elon worship, he argues it revealed Musk's insecurities and why he can't be trusted to shape a superintelligence's values
- Anthic trying to be a beneficial player while financing an actor whose "governance and alignment instincts are themselves a major risk" is hard to square
- Bankrolling xAI right before its IPO worsens the overall landscape; Elon should be kept away from the frontier
- It also creates a dependency that makes it harder for Anthropic's leaders to speak freely about Musk or xAI
- Verdict: a terrible partner for a company claiming to "race to the top"
Note: the deal itself is unconfirmed; this is one commenter's opinion.
