Vercel Shop goes GA: Vercel and Shopify make AI agents first-class shoppers
evilrabbit_ · x · 2026-10-20
Vercel Shop, the open-source Next.js storefront template built with Shopify, is now generally available, designed to treat shopping agents as first-class customers.
Key points:
- Built on Shopify's rebuilt Hydrogen SDK (now GA), which works across JavaScript frameworks and exposes catalog, cart, payments and checkout;
- Agents can read product pages directly;
- Ships with MCP tooling for agent-driven product search and carts;
- Storefronts are optimized for humans, search engines, and agents alike.
Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke and Vercel CEO Guillermo Rauch discussed the future of agent commerce at Vercel Ship SF, with Shopify inviting developers to remix its hard-won checkout infrastructure.
