Unmix: local MCP server that reverses a dev decision while rebuilding retained changes
ashy2185 · reddit · 2026-10-19
The author released Unmix (MIT), a local Git task ledger and stdio MCP server built with substantial Codex help. It solves changing direction after dependent edits: remove mandatory registration while keeping checkout, receipt export and a rounding fix.
- Records each task before editing: intent, declared dependencies, snapshots, checks
- Replays retained patches in a separate candidate worktree, pausing for Codex/human to adapt conflicts
- Original checkout, branch and index stay intact; workflow: begin/finish → prepare → inspect/report → adapt/resume → verify
- Optional "preservation passport" requires evidence for retained behaviors; v0.1.9 adds declared browser/auth/session conditions that invalidate stale observations
70 tests pass on Node 22/24 CI; the author is upfront that only synthetic reconstructions have been run. Requires Node 22+ and Git, zero npm dependencies. Seeking real-world trials and feedback on the MCP boundary.
