Probability journals including Bernoulli suspend submissions citing AI-driven surge
michaelchchoi · x · 2026-10-19
Several probability journals — Annales de l'Institut Poincaré B, Bernoulli, EJP/ECP, and ESAIM: P&S — will temporarily close submissions from October 19, reopening in November under updated policies; the Journal of Stochastic Processes and Application will defer new submissions in the same period.
The editors cite an unprecedented surge in submissions that leaves no capacity to give each manuscript proper care, and explicitly note that AI's rapid development is profoundly changing scientific publishing, requiring a rethink of editorial policies and tools. The pause will be used to introduce immediate measures and accelerate broader reforms — a landmark signal of AI-generated papers overwhelming academic publishing.
