The AI coding curse: skipping code understanding makes you helplessly dependent on the model
MoonL88537 · x · 2026-10-19
A resonant reflection on why coding with AI can be miserable: "for the sake of speed, I've decided not to try understanding the code myself." Extremely effective short-term, but as project complexity grows you become completely dependent on the AI for any progress — and when the world's smartest AI fails to fix a bug, you're trapped, reduced to begging "pls fix."
The reposter sharpens it: if you took the time to understand all the code you could have written it yourself; meaningful gains only come if you can trust the code is good.
