Xiaohongshu's World Cup streaming stack: 15% bitrate cut, 57x faster 4K transcoding

Xiaohongshu's engineering team details the audio/video pipeline behind its World Cup live and replay coverage:
- Quality enhancement: temporal models fix deinterlacing flicker; a unified denoise/deblur/super-resolution model suppresses grass "breathing" using historical frames; frame interpolation separately supervises scoreboards to avoid distortion; content-aware local tone mapping compresses jersey gamuts and protects skin tones with soft masks.
- Rate control & transcoding: switching from CBR to CRF+VBV with ROI and adaptive quantization cut live bitrate 15% and 4K bitrate 13.3%. The low-complexity replay tier moved to single-process transcoding for a 79.4% speedup; the GPU-heavy UHD tier used multi-GPU parallelism and frame-rate alignment for 57x faster transcoding with 100% ABR alignment.
- Devices & audio: bypassing a third-party cast SDK's 4K detection raised cast success by 16.82%; streaming reads cut web stutters 84%; an in-house upmix pipeline converts stereo to Dolby Atmos with commentary anchored center and crowd ambience expanded to height layers.
