Walking 800m Buys You Half an Apple: an Honest Calorie AI with an Explicit Abstain Layer

Built for a McDonald's China hackathon, this tool converts walking distance into a calorie budget (800m ≈ +44 kcal, half an apple) and exposes how unreliable restaurant calorie data is — condiment oil can swing a dish by 300 kcal. Its portable idea is an explicit abstain layer: L1 exact recipe match ±25% (70.6% of 1,236 dishes), L2 category median ±35%, L3 store-type prior ±45%, L4 abstain as "unknown". Category values use medians instead of hand-picked round numbers. Swap in Google/OSM maps and USDA/OpenFoodFacts to port the pipeline. Demo and MIT-licensed code available.
