He built a local photo search app with Claude — 8s per 1k photos, open-sourced

A developer open-sourced Orchard, a fully local photo search app for Mac/Windows/Linux built mostly with Opus 5.5 — the model even produced the launch video. Key lessons: aggressive optimization cut indexing to 8s/1k photos on an M5 Pro GPU (1 min CPU-only); the launch video needed human steering with a clear vision to avoid feeling generic; and despite strong skills/agents/orchestration, most remaining work was unglamorous polish like status indicators and decluttering.
