DecisionAct: open-source Python agent framework using decision models instead of LLM replies
AgitatedReveal07 · reddit · 2026-10-19
A developer released DecisionAct, an open-source Python framework built on the idea that not every agent needs an LLM to generate every response.
- How it works: you define intents, tools, and allowed outcomes; decision models interpret natural-language requests, pick tools to call, and select an allowed outcome. Python functions execute actions and predefined templates generate replies — faster and cheaper than LLM generation.
- Supported: multiple tool calls, conversation memory, checkpointing, middleware, and human approval, with order-support and flight-desk examples.
- Install: pip install decisionact; code on GitHub, docs and PyPI live.
- Early release; the author seeks feedback on API design and where this approach beats or falls short of LLM-based agents.
