Asimov open-sources Python SDK and Edge control layer for its humanoid robot
freelerobot · x · 2026-10-19
Menlo Research released a Python SDK (menlo-sdk, Apache 2.0) for its Asimov 1 humanoid and announced open-sourcing Asimov Edge. The SDK offers high-level walking commands, direct joint control, robot-state feedback, and access to camera, mic and speaker, with LiveKit-based teleoperation and a native UDP interface for local use. Edge runs on-robot and arbitrates between competing control sources — SDK apps, human teleoperation, gamepad — before forwarding commands to firmware, letting a human take priority and managing handoff. Caveats: Cockpit and gamepad outrank the SDK, the SDK is not an emergency stop, and the announced Edge source code could not be located at review time.
