Huawei's 3.2T VCSEL NPO: forced into redundant ILS design due to laser supply limits
zephyr_z9 · x · 2026-10-19
Optics insider zephyrz9 explains Huawei's 3.2T VCSEL NPO: lacking volume access to 300mW+ lasers, Huawei went with a 100-150mW ILS design plus one backup laser for redundancy. The slide shows a 32×112G engine at 24W, 112G VCSEL/PD arrays with high-speed oRFIC, 200Gbps VCSELs at 40GHz bandwidth, and >10-year wear-out life at 60°C/9mA. OCP consensus favors external CW lasers (ELSFP) or micro-VCSEL; InP was chosen for maturity.
