RustGIS Adds Moon, Mars and 10 Other Worlds With Body-Accurate Scale Bars
giswqs · x · 2026-10-19
Developer giswqs announced that RustGIS now supports extraterrestrial mapping — no longer Earth-only.
What's new
- 12 celestial bodies: Earth, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Venus, the Galilean moons (Io, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto), Titan, Pluto and Charon
- Measure tools and all scale bars use the selected body's radius, so a kilometer on Mars is a Martian kilometer
- Users can overlay their own vector/raster layers, style, label and run geoprocessing tools; the body persists with the project
- Scriptable via CLI, Python or the AI Assistant with map.body={"name": "mars"}
Basemaps come from OpenPlanetaryMap and USGS sources.
