vLLM cuts container startup time 14-18% with one uv bytecode flag
vllm_project · x · 2026-10-19
vLLM's official account shared Nils Matteson's optimization: fresh containers recompile thousands of Python files at startup. Setting ENV UVCOMPILEBYTECODE=1 at build time ships precompiled bytecode in the image, saving a median 17.6/17.8 seconds (14-18%) for Qwen3-8B and Qwen3-32B startups on H100.
The change (PR #55422) is already in the CUDA nightly image and ships in official release images from v0.32.0 — no user-side flag needed. All 8 paired observations improved; methodology and data are public.
