Biscotti: a self-hosted Instinct-like iMessage assistant in ~850 LOC
lucasgelfond · reddit · 2026-10-19
Developer lucasgelfond open-sourced Biscotti, a self-hosted iMessage AI assistant modeled on Instinct, in roughly 850 lines of code running on a Raspberry Pi. He liked the Instinct service but was spooked by its privacy and permission model, and found that modern off-the-shelf building blocks (Firecracker VMs, Pi harnesses) made rolling his own surprisingly easy.
It currently calls a cloud model but is deployable anywhere, including fully self-hosted models — a privacy-first alternative for personal assistant users who want their data to stay local. Code is on GitHub.
