MinniMemoryMCP cuts Claude Code's per-turn memory load 43% by reorganizing context
MinniLabs · reddit · 2026-10-19
MinniLabs released MinniMemoryMCP, a free read-only MCP server that reorganizes Claude Code's memory: it keeps per-turn essentials in place and moves dated notes, status updates and one-off material into on-demand files, leaving CLAUDE.md with a short index — no summarizing, only moves.
- Safety design: apply/undo return the exact command plus a change list, so every write goes through Claude Code's own approval; originals are backed up with one-step undo; no model, no API key, no network.
- Results: per-turn load dropped from 12,511 to 7,101 tokens (−43%) with identical answers on their test memory.
- Key insight: splitting memory alone saved nothing across a session because Claude kept reopening moved files; a companion prompt hook that hands over only the needed memory section made a 27-task session about a third cheaper (single run).
Currently Claude Code only. Install: npx -y minnimemory install.
