Simon Willison ships llm-echo 0.5, a no-LLM debug model that now counts tool-call tokens

Simon Willison released llm-echo 0.5, an update to the debug plugin for his llm CLI.
The plugin provides a "model" that involves no LLM at all—it simply echoes back the prompts fed to it, making it useful for testing pipelines. The new release updates the simulated token usage counts to account for tool calls, system prompts, and reasoning tokens, as Willison tests PRs ahead of a new llm release.
