GLP-1 drugs still outearn all of AI: $97B vs $73B this year
matt_slotnick · x · 2026-10-19
A chart by @agingroy shows Ozempic + Mounjaro on pace for $97B in revenue this year vs $73B combined for OpenAI + Anthropic — a 1.3x gap — though Anthropic (annualized $46B) has passed Ozempic ($37.1B). lefttailguy argues pharma's long-run growth is capability-constrained, not demand-constrained: R&D dollars convert poorly into valuable therapeutics today, and GLP-1 revenue ramps resemble coding-model ramps — except scaled drug-making capability would unlock even faster revenue growth.
