Claude Code's default AI attribution in commits sparks developer backlash over obscured human authorship
maksym_andr · x · 2026-10-19
Developer maksymandr criticizes Claude Code's default system reminder that instructs the model to insert AI attribution ("Co-Authored-By") into git commits and pull requests. His argument: when nearly all code is now written by agents, what matters is tracking the provenance of the human steering the agent — and blanket AI attribution obscures that.
He acknowledges the behavior can be disabled via CLAUDE.md or memory rules, but objects to it being on by default.
