Local models are now good enough for first-round code review, dev finds while paying frontier API prices
draginol · x · 2026-10-19
Developer draginol reports that just as he started paying API prices for frontier tokens, a local model turned out to be good enough to handle the first round of code review — a practical cost-saving split between local and frontier models.
The screenshot shows his AI agent (GPT-6.1 Sol) automatically "recruiting" a local Qwen 3.8 27B model as a reviewer after finishing fixes: all four review findings corrected and the previously failing benchmark behavior test now passing.
