Doris Tsao's team invites open peer review on bioRxiv, bypassing journal timelines
anshulkundaje · x · 2026-10-19
- Neuroscientist Doris Tsao, now at Astera Institute, publicly asked peer experts to leave timely feedback on her new bioRxiv work via the bioRxiv comment function, saying interest is immense and Astera will build on the work — and wants critical shortcomings flagged ASAP.
- Astera founder Seemay Chou clarified the project pre-dated Tsao joining Astera and will proceed with or without journals. She invited all scientists to weigh in publicly now rather than waiting 6–12 months for journal review, arguing technical review and open dialogue need not be separate and that journal gating doesn't fit the pace of modern, increasingly extra-academic science.
