Lex Fridman on obsession as humanity's most magnificent trait, in 2019 Kai-Fu Lee interview

Blogger vista8 shares a moment from Lex Fridman's 2019 interview with Kai-Fu Lee: Fridman argued that one of humanity's most magnificent traits is the ability to be obsessed—totally committed to one thing even at the cost of exposing flaws—and that pure passion and hard work is what being human means.
Lee didn't deny it but advocated adjusting by proportion: a lower percentage for family when young but always high priority, shifting most of it near retirement. He doesn't advocate working less overall—he wants to be 100% present at key family moments. He even did the math: prioritizing what matters means a happier family, fewer fights, and net time that isn't necessarily negative.
