Kenneth Stanley shares FER hypothesis paper: fractured representations hurt adaptability
kenneth0stanley · x · 2026-10-19
In a follow-up to his critique of mechanistic interpretability, Kenneth Stanley links the Fractured Entangled Representations (FER) paper. The accompanying diagram shows that networks from open-ended search develop unified factored representations with good adaptability, while conventional SGD produces identically-behaving networks with fractured, entangled representations and poor adaptability.
