Professor gave human-written essay a zero as "AI-generated"; detector showed 99.9% human

A retired nursing professor recounts on Reddit how her grandson — a National Honor Society grad with all-AP courses — had his first college essay graded zero because the professor insisted it was "totally AI generated" with "big words he couldn't define." After appealing, the department required the paper be run through AI-detection software, which found it 99.9% human-written; it was regraded to an A. She warns it's easier for professors to hand out zeros than to use available tools and actually assess student work — and asks how many students silently accept such false accusations.
