- DeepSeek has opened up the search engine behind its app as an API, priced at roughly $0.75 per 1,000 searches — far below Brave's $5 per 1,000.
- The author found raw results agent-unfriendly: vague queries get vague answers, and English searches returned 2 of top-5 results in Chinese.
- He released BetterSearch, an open-source (MIT) skill that adds better query generation, parallel subagent research, a fact-checking pass on every claim, and a clean HTML report with charts. It works in Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, OpenCode and Hermes, with a one-line install script and key setup guide.
