Boston Dynamics' brutal lesson: Handle out, Stretch in as DHL signs for 1,000+ robots
TinfoilTricorn · x · 2026-10-18
Boston Dynamics shelved its spectacular chicken-like Handle robot for Stretch — a mobile platform with an arm and vacuum gripper built for real warehouse problems. DHL signed an agreement in May 2025 paving the way for 1,000+ more Boston Dynamics robots. The lesson: industrial customers pay for productivity, reliability and ROI, not spectacle — and robots moving material to the line remain vital where lights-out autonomy isn't feasible.
