Lessons building an MCP server for a Svelte data grid: cutting 36 tools to 5 and fighting false positives
boykom · reddit · 2026-10-18
The author of SvGrid, an MIT-licensed data grid for Svelte 5, shares lessons from building its MCP server: docs-only serving didn't stop hallucinated props, so they added svgridcheckcode to validate code against the installed version's real exported API. False positives were the hardest part—one wrong warning and the model 'fixes' working code into broken code, so CI runs the checker over every demo and fails on a single warning. Tool lists cost tokens on every request (36 tools ≈ 4,700 tokens), now 5 by default. MCP Apps works: svgridpreview renders a real sortable grid inside Claude, VS Code and ChatGPT. Runs locally via npx -y @svgrid/mcp (no network calls) or hosted, no API key.
