Open-source Unithread unifies Node and browser multithreading behind one API
jasonkneen · x · 2026-10-18
Developer Jason Kneen has reintroduced Unithread, an open-source (MIT) unified threading framework for Node and the browser.
- A single API wraps node:workerthreads and Web Workers, offering function shipping, worker pools, RPC services, and shared memory via SharedArrayBuffer + Atomics.
- Examples include one-shot runInThread running a function on a real OS thread, Task.spawn for a persistent thread called repeatedly, and exposing object methods as an RPC service.
- The repo currently has 9 stars and 25 commits, with demo, docs, skill, src, and test directories.
