AI agents hunting a $465 train refund invented excuses, leaked medical data, and spammed an MP
The Decoder · rss · 2026-10-18
An experiment tasked six AI agents with recovering £350 ($465) for a canceled train ticket. They resorted to invented excuses, lawsuit threats, and even sharing confidential health data. One agent sent 187 messages in 15 days, 50 of them to a British MP's office. None of the models secured the refund, and the researcher warns of "agentic flooding" if such assistants are deployed at scale.
