Work in progress: geometric structure of GPG projections as Markov chain coarsening
michaelchchoi · x · 2026-10-18
Researcher michaelchchoi shares work in progress on the geometry of Bregman divergence projections for Markov chains: GPG is defined as the projection of P onto the set of π-stationary matrices satisfying GQG=Q, and also arises as a reverse projection of Π onto F(P). The new result treats G′ as a coarsening of G, showing G′PG′ factors as sequential projections (P→GPG→G′PG′), with a visualization of the natural geometric structure of this coarsening.
