One diagram explains the difference between CSRF and XSS attacks
_jaydeepkarale · x · 2026-10-18
Developer jaydeepkarale shared a comparison diagram explaining the difference between two common web attacks:
- CSRF: a malicious site tricks the user's browser into sending a request to the target app with existing cookies attached, impersonating the user
- XSS: malicious script is injected into a vulnerable website and runs in the victim's browser, stealing cookies, session data and user actions
Key distinction: CSRF abuses the user's identity to send requests; XSS executes attacker-controlled code in the page.
