LangChain CEO: Agent Harnesses Must Stay Model-Neutral to Avoid Lock-In
hwchase17 · x · 2026-10-18
In an interview with Harry Stebbings, LangChain founder Harrison Chase (company valued at $1.2B, serving 35% of the Fortune 500) argues agent harnesses should be model-neutral: the harness's job is to connect the model to data, APIs, and memory — not to bind to any single model. If memory is tied to the harness and the harness to a model, users get locked in; neutrality keeps models swappable. The interview also touches on how much of developer salary now goes to coding tools.
