Dev builds Arch-based OS with custom desktop and browser using Claude Code
Snoo-10493 · reddit · 2026-10-18
A developer released Tacit, a free OS for Intel/AMD PCs built on Arch Linux, featuring a custom desktop, its own apps, an installer, background updates, an app store, and Thyris, a Chromium-based browser.
Claude Code was part of the workflow throughout: investigating bugs, comparing architectural options, making focused code changes, and working through test results, while the author provided direction, constraints, and review. Examples include tracing a browser tab-clipping bug to a corner-rounding setting, and comparing Qt WebEngine vs Electron vs a Chromium fork on memory, performance, and maintenance cost. Bootable from USB; source on GitHub.
