Codex Work Cloud wrongly exposes list_threads tool, which then fails with MCP error
hanakannzashi · ghdev · 2026-10-12
openai/codex issue #53177 reports a bug in ChatGPT Work Cloud mode: when a cloud conversation uses the user's Mac as its execution environment, the assistant can discover the listthreads tool but calling it fails with "MCP error -32000: Codex app tool request failed". When the execution environment is in the cloud, the tool isn't exposed at all.
The author argues the advertised tool set should match what the conversation can actually call. A related issue (#52063) reports the same listthreads error on a Windows local executor.
