"Cuteness solves AI alignment" — and the brutal rebuttal about pugs
zetalyrae · x · 2026-10-18
A viral take proposes an unconventional AI alignment solution: cuteness. Instead of debating which values a superintelligent AI should align to, just make humanity cute — humans instinctively take care of cute things like babies and cats, and nobody wants to wipe out the cuties.
The quoted rebuttal is equally sharp: "Dogs are cute. We cut their balls off. We also turn some of them into pugs" — implying that being deemed cute by a superior power hasn't historically worked out well.
