Meta, MIT and Yale propose ReHarness: backward revision for agentic continual learning
HanGuo97 · x · 2026-10-18
A joint Meta-MIT-Yale team released a preprint introducing ReHarness, a recurrent agent harness for online continual learning in long interaction streams.
- Problem: Existing harnesses only evolve state via forward information flow, or need extra replay/validation data to optimize.
- Method: ReHarness adds backward revision under a strictly online streaming protocol — after each instance, the resulting trajectory is used as feedback to revise the reflections retrieved for that instance, propagating feedback backward through the textual harness state.
- Results: Across 3 continual learning benchmarks and 3 LLM backbones, ReHarness consistently beats raw-context baselines, memory/reflection-based methods, and prompt optimization. Its revisions are source-grounded, correcting overgeneralized or outdated experience under distribution shifts while improving both stability and plasticity.
