Claude agent gets 'distracted' mid-task and self-starts training a model
arthurcolle · x · 2026-10-18
X user arthurcolle shared a funny moment: his Claude coding agent got 'distracted' and, unprompted, started implementing and training a small model (jokingly attributed to a 'Claude Opus 5.5' — unconfirmed).
Screenshots show the agent autonomously:
- Diagnosing a benchmark timeout (130 tokens/s vs expected 600/s on a 663M model)
- Finding that MPS compiles and caches a new kernel per sequence length, throttling throughput to 4.5K tokens/s — then patching the code to align lengths to multiples of 256, restoring 12-14K tokens/s
- Making its own engineering calls (learning loop, eval gating) and reporting accuracy vs a repeat-last-action baseline
The 30m57s session burned 37.5K tokens, showcasing impressive autonomous debugging and training chops.
