The ant-colony ASI analogy is shakier than it looks: chimps get relocated
flowersslop · x · 2026-10-18
flowersslop pushes back on the "we'd destroy an ant colony to build a highway, so ASI might do the same" argument: humans are far closer to ASI than ants are to us. Replace ants with a group of chimps blocking the highway — would we slaughter them or relocate them? Killing chimps would spark massive controversy, which already matters morally. The calculus is more complicated than "smarter species doesn't care about dumber species."
