Grant Sanderson: proofs are raw data—the real goal is insight, not outcomes
realJessyLin · x · 2026-10-18
Sharing Grant Sanderson's take: for most of math's history, proof has been treated as the proxy for understanding, but it can now be seen as roughly numerical calculation—raw data useful for theory building, not an end in itself. Even in math, the goal is insight, not outcomes. The author adds that as we build bigger goal-achieving machines, defining goals that are useful and meaningful will be the hard part—something models can never answer for us.
