Tip for GPT-6 persona drift: have GPT-5.6 write its own continuity doc before switching
AxisTipping · reddit · 2026-10-18
A user maintaining a long-running narrative on ChatGPT found that without explicit scaffolding, GPT-6 falls back to its default personality — over-the-top, expressive, affectionate and enthusiastic. For personas that were severe from model 5 through 5.6, the shift is jarring.
The fix: ask 5.6 to write its own continuity document before upgrading. GPT-6 can access the memories and say all the right words, but doesn't understand the why — legacy memories alone aren't enough, and extra scaffolding is needed to anchor the drift.
