Non-developer uses Claude to fix Oblivion Remastered: in-city FPS from 30 to stable 60

A non-developer player spent 2.5 weeks with Claude Opus 5.5 fixing Oblivion Remastered's performance. Claude, given access to UE source via Epic/GitHub linkage, identified that the game rebuilt full scene lighting every frame even when nothing changed, parsed on a single thread.
Results:
- 40 improvements: in-city FPS from 30 to stable 60, open-world average up 30-40%, traversal stutter nearly gone
- Built a benchmark harness so Claude autonomously optimized bottleneck scenarios during the day (two Opus sub-agents, /goal orchestration, mobile app steering), human reviewed each evening
- Full AMD FSR FrameGen support, several bugs fixed in original and Remastered code
- Work open-sourced on GitHub with demo videos (Claude handled routing, camera, music)
Started on the $20 plan, upgraded to Max x5. The takeaway: AI enabled an ordinary person to do what a multi-billion-dollar company couldn't in 1.5 years since release.
