AI capability up ~119,000x since 2022 but US GDP grew just 2.6%/year

Responding to a survey of Anthropic staff implying 17.1% GDP growth by 2030, @alexolegimas argues the economy is far more complicated than extrapolating AI capability curves.
A paired chart (2022–2026) shows:
- AI capability: METR 50% task horizon doubling every 4.9 months, up 119,567% since Q1 2022 (Claude Opus 4.6 at 12h), an exponential explosion.
- US real GDP: averaging just 2.6% annual growth over the same period (Q4 2026: 2.0%), essentially flat.
Core point: people steeped in AI capability charts assume they translate into GDP growth, but diffusion, labor markets and organizational adaptation sit between the two curves.
